Royal congratulatory message to Japan

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday consented to send congratulatory messages to Emperor of Japan His Imperial Majesty Akihito, and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the occasion of the emperor's birthday.

The monarch hopes that His Imperial Majesty Akihito would always remain in good health and happiness, and for the people of Japan to always enjoy continued progress and prosperity.

His Majesty also expressed satisfaction with the warm and friendly relations and deep understanding between Brunei Darussalam and Japan. His Majesty hopes that this would be maintained and enhanced in the future for the good of both countries and its people.

At the same time, in a similar congratulatory message, the monarch congratulated Prime Minister Abe, the government and the people of Japan on the occasion of the emperor's birthday.

The monarch also wished Prime Minister Abe continued good health and happiness and for the people of Japan to enjoy prosperity.

Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Brunei Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, extended his best wishes and warmest congratulations to Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Taro Aso, the government and the people of Japan on the occasion of their National Day celebrations.

His Royal Highness said, "It has been a great pleasure working with you, and I am very pleased that the much valued friendship between our two countries has grown in strength over the years.

"I look forward to many opportunities in the coming year to enhance this friendship and cooperation both bilaterally and as partners in the Asia-Pacific region," HRH added. (23rd Dec 2006)
