Tug-of-war competition to mark monarch's b'day celebration

Numerous activities are being lined-up to mark the monarch's 60th birthday celebration in July, one of which is a tug-of-war competition organised by the Fire Services and Rescue Department Belait District B Operation Section.

The tug-of-war event will be divided into five categories. The first category will be for participants weighing 70kg and below, while the second will be for participants with a combined weight of 1,900 kg.

The third category is open to students and youths aged 20 years and below with a combined weight of 1,300kg, while the fourth is open to both government and non-government Primary VI students.

Meanwhile, the fifth category will be a special competition between executive committee members and the 2006 tug-of-war committee members.

Categories one and two are opened to government departments, Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Royal Brunei Police Force, private sector, associations, clubs, mukims and villages in the Belait District.

Category three is opened to colleges, vocational schools, government and non-government secondary schools, associations, clubs, mukims and villages in the Belait District.

The preliminary rounds will be held on June 16 and the following rounds to determine teams for the semi-finals and finals will be held on June 23.

The finals will be held at the Padang Bandaran either on June 30 or July 1.

Registration forms - which were distributed on May 15 - must be completed and returned to the Secretariat no later than Saturday, May 27.

The tug-of-war event aims to add to the festivities and also create an awareness of a healthy lifestyle either mentally or physically through sports.
