Big contingent ready for Tattoo show

The Military Band of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China and experts from Coazhou Martial Arts Vocational School arrived in Brunei yesterday evening.

They are really excited to perform at the Brunei International Tattoo (BIT) 2006.

According to the head of the delegation, Mr Jiang Siwen, the Military Band of PLA of China is delighted to participate in such an event for the first time.

"We will have a special performance just for the occasion of His Majesty's 60th Birthday celebrations. It's a surprise, so the public will have to wait and see," he commented.

The performance by experts from Coazhou Martial Arts Vocational School is also going to be an added bonus, he added.

Mr Jiang Siwen hopes that with the show, PLA of China and RBAF could foster closer ties, cooperation and friendship.

He also thanked the government of His Majesty the Sultan and RBAF for extending their invitation.

He further conveyed his appreciation to HSBC for sponsoring their trip.

With a total of 89 personnel, including 24 martial artist experts, it will be one of the largest contingents ever to perform in Brunei.

Earlier yesterday afternoon, the Pakistan Army Tri Services band also arrived at Brunei International Airport with high hopes for a grand performance.

Lt Col Amir Sultan, Commander of the Pakistan Army Tri Services, remarked that they were grateful to be asked for a performance. Their motto apparently is "We're here to celebrate".

According to Lt Col Amir Sultan, their performance will also include a solo show followed by a famous local flak song before the grand finale. - Borneo Bulletin (22nd July 2006)
