654 awarded Brunei State Decorations

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to award the State Honorary medals to 654 people. The medals were awarded in conjunction with His Majesty's 59th Birthday Anniversary.

His Majesty was represented by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office. The auspicious event took place at the Balai Singgahsana Indera Kenchana, Istana Nurul Iman, yesterday morning.

His Royal Highness first awarded the "Pingat Jasa Kebaktian", P.J.K. or Meritorious Service Medal to 74 recipients. This was followed by the award of "Pingat Indah Kerja Baik", P.I.K.B. to 353 recipients.

Another 227 people were awarded the "Pingat Kerja Lama", P.K.L. or Long Service Medal. The recipients of the Brunei State Decorations yesterday comprised those from the public sector as well as some uniformed personnel.

The ceremony concluded with a 'doa selamat' read by a religious official from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Also present during the ceremony were Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Councils, Deputy Ministers, Pengiran-Pengiran Peranakan, Pehin-Pehin Manteri, Manteri-Manteri Pendalaman, Foreign Diplomats, Permanent Secretaries and heads of government departments. - Borneo Bulletin (22nd Feb 2006)
