Sultan opens Majlis Ilmu & exhibition

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday consented to grace the Majlis Ilmu 2006 (Convention for Knowledge) and launch the publication of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Islamic Exhibition Gallery: Revitalising Islamic Civilisation.

Upon arrival at the International Convention Centre in Berakas where the event took place, His Majesty was greeted by the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, Dato Seri Paduka Eusoff Agaki Hj Ismail, who is also chairman of the Majlis Ilmu Steering Committee.

Yesterday's ceremony also saw the attendance of HRH Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, The Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, HRH Prince Abdul Azim, HRH Prince Abdul Malik and HRH Prince Abdul Mateen.

The event began with a recital of the holy Al-Quran followed by the welcoming speech by Dato Seri Paduka Eusoff Agaki. His Majesty then consented to deliver his Titah and officially launch the Seminar on Supporting the Monarch Sovereignty.

A Doa Selamat was read before His Majesty consented to take a tour of the exhibition booths.

The convention is one of the key events of His Majesty's 60th birthday celebrations organised by the Prime Minister's Office. A number of activities are underway beginning yesterday until the second week of August.

Amongst others present were cabinet ministers, deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, LEGCO members, diplomats and prominent businessmen. - Borneo Bulletin (21st July 2006)
