The construction of the Bumiputra Shops Phase II and a project to increase water supply capability are among the ongoing efforts of His Majesty's Government to raise the standard of living in Temburong District.

Temburong District Officer (DO), Pengiran Abd. Haris bin Pengiran Hj Shabudin, highlighted the two projects in his speech during His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's get-together with the residents of Temburong District yesterday.

Addressing thousands of people who attended the event at the field of Pekan Bangar Community Hall, Pengiran Abd. Haris said that His Majesty's Government was making continuous efforts to increase the standard of living by expanding services and amenities in areas such as development of Islam, education, communication, safety, health, welfare and the economy according to their priority.

Citing an example, he said under the Eighth National Development Plan, the construction of the Bumiputera Shop Phase II in Temburong is underway and expected to be completed on October 31, 2006.

The project hopes to intensify economic activities in the district.

Meanwhile, the Department of Works is implementing a project to increase the district's water supply capability. This project is scheduled for completion on October 23, 2006.

"In short, the Temburong District will continuously enjoy development and conveniences in line with the national development arranged by His Majesty's Government," he added.

Pengiran Abd. Haris thanked His Majesty for consenting to approve the new amendments to the regulations on the Mukim and Village Consultative Council Organising Board.

He said the mukim and village consultative council is a platform to promote unity and peace in the community. - Borneo Bulletin (20th July 2006)
