His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam received a warm welcome from residents of Temburong during the monarch's visit to the Cultural Exhibition held at the District Community Hall in Belalong, Temburong yesterday.

Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Azim, His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen.

The exhibition showcases the traditions and cultures of Temburong people and is participated by five mukims, including Mukim Amo, Mukim Bangar and Mukim Bukok.

Highlights of the exhibition include a traditional Kedayan wedding and 'Memukun', a traditional Murut wedding and 'Gulingtangan', as well as demonstrations on making traditional Murut clothing and accessories.

Another highlight of the exhibition is the padi grinding display. Temburong is the biggest producer of rice in Brunei Darussalam.

Also taking part in the exhibition is the Forestry Department, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, with a display on the wonders of Ulu Temburong National Park. Brunei's first national park is home to pristine forests that contain a host of amazing flora and fauna.

Local entrepreneurs also took the opportunity to display some of their products. One such entrepreneur is Dynatrade Sdn Bhd, which runs the Rubuda Impian Resort. Its director, Mohd Shafie Haji Simpon, said he was delighted to have the chance to promote Dynatrade products at the exhibition.

An excited visitor to the exhibition, Libo binti Bangun, an ethnic Iban, said she was very happy and thankful for the opportunity to meet His Majesty, adding that she hoped the exhibition will be held again next year.

The Cultural Exhibition is open to the public until July 26, and will be held from 8am to 4.30pm. - Borneo Bulletin (20th July 2006)
