Crown Prince graces Civil Service Day celebration

His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, consented to grace the 13th Civil Service Day celebrations held yesterday at International Convention Centre in Berakas.

Pg Dato Paduka Hj Abd Hamid, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office as the Executive Committee Chairman of the celebration, highlighted the need to practice a customer-friendly atmosphere, urging departments to hold a Customer Appreciation Day.

He added that the e-Government project is still at various stages of implementation, and when completed would facilitate customer service.

He said this year two categories were competed in the Excellent Service Award - service and finance. Six projects were nominated for the award.

In his speech, Pg Dato Paduka Hj Abd Hamid said this year, some 1,518 officers and staff retired from the civil service and 44 of them received their retirement certificate, which HRH the Crown Prince consented to present.

Among early recipients of retirement certificates were Datin Paduka Hjh Salmah Hj Hanafiah, Hj Jumin Marsal and Dato Paduka Hj Metassan Hj Mohd Daud.

Civil Service Day is celebrated annually on September 29, to commemorate the proclamation of the country's Constitution. The theme for this year's celebration is 'Customer-Friendly Civil Service'. - Borneo Bulletin (1st October 2006)
