Royal messages to Canada

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send congratulatory messages to Mr Michaelle Jean, the Governor-General of Canada, and Mr Stephen Joseph Harper, the Prime Minister of Canada on the occasion of Canada Day.

In his message, His Majesty noted with satisfaction that the relations between the two countries had continued to develop from strength to strength. His Majesty also expressed his endeavour to widen and enhance the friendship in the coming years for the mutual benefits of the two countries and peoples. His Majesty also hopes that Mr Michaelle Jean would always remain in good health and happiness and for the people of Canada to always enjoy continued progress and prosperity.

At the same time, in a similar congratulatory message to Mr Stephen Joseph Harper, His Majesty congratulated Mr Harper and the government and people of Canada on the occasion of Canada Day.

His Majesty expressed his satisfaction with the warm and friendly relations that had been long established between the two countries. His Majesty also expressed his wish that this will be maintained and enhanced in the future for the mutual benefit of the two countries and peoples. His Majesty also wished Mr Harper his continued good health and happiness and for the prosperity of the people of Canada.

Meanwhile His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, also sent similar a congratulatory message to his counterpart, Mr Peter Mackay, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, and to the government and people of Canada on the occasion of Canada Day.

His Royal Highness expressed his appreciation for the warm and close friendship that exists between the two countries, and looked forward to enhancing relations, bilaterally and regionally in the Asean-Canada dialogue. - Borneo Bulletin (1st July 2006)
