St James' School, Kuala Belait emerged as the champion in an arch competition with a 77.3 per cent mark, held in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan's 60th birthday celebrations.

The school team, which consists of teachers and students, received its awards in a prize presentation recently at Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Ali, Jln Mumong in Kuala Belait.

For this year's competition, the school decided to build a special arch for His Majesty's 60th birthday with a "Diamond Jubilee" theme. The diamond, one of the strongest substances on Earth, symbolises the 60th year and signifies the strong leadership qualities of His Majesty's rule.

The project was sponsored by the school's Board of Governors as well as by the school staff to show their affection to their beloved monarch.

According to the school Principal Cikgu Mohd Ali bin Hj Ahmad, this year the school achieved its victory based on the theme and teamwork. - Borneo Bulletin (1st August 2006)
