In conjunction with His Majesty's 60th birthday celebration, more than 10,000 people are expected to take part in the "Walkathon Emas 60 Tahun" event.

This was stated by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Dato Paduka Hj Idris Hj Belaman, who is also the co-chairman of the organising committee of the walkathon, at RTB Rampai Pagi Programme recently.

He said the objective of the walkathon is to enliven the festive atmosphere of the birthday celebration.

Apart from that, the walkathon is also to support the government's vision to promote healthy lifestyle activities for all ages in an effort to foster unity and cooperation between the communities.

The walkathon is open to the general public throughout the Sultanate. The secretariat of the walkathon organising committee also invited all government officers and staff members at the ministries and departments, private and public sectors as well as non-government bodies, associations and schools.

"Walkathon Emas 60 Tahun" will be held on July 2, from 6.30am, which will kick off and end at Taman Haji Sir Omar Ali Saifuddien in the capital.

The event is divided into two categories: male and female. Male participants will walk a distant of 3.8km, while the female participants will cover a different route of 3.2km.

The event will begin with a mass aerobic warm-up exercise and will follow by the walkathon.
