Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hjh Saleha yesterday consented to present trophies to the winners of the al-Quran reading competition of the Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam at the Royal Berkshire Hall, Jerudong Park Country Club. Her Majesty is the Royal Patron of the association.
Also present at the ceremony were Her Royal Highness Princess Hjh Masna, who is President of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association, and Her Royal Highness Princess Hjh Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam.
The ceremony started with a welcoming speech by the Commissioner of Com-munication of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association, Pengiran Hajah Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Kamaludin, who highlighted that there was an increase in the number of members from the Girl Guides Association in the Brunei-Muara District taking part in the district level competition that is 22 Brownies, 16 Girl Guides and eight leaders. This year, in the finals, for every category, Brunei-Muara District sent two representatives, while the other districts sent one representative.
Later, al-Quran reading presentations were made by the winners. This was followed by a Nasyid presentation by the Brownies and a Dikir presentation by the Girl Guides and Girl Guide leaders.
In the Girl Guide leaders' category, first place went to Masyitah Batubara from the Brunei-Muara District, second place went to Katijah binti Mahari and third place was won by Dk Nurhidayatul Hafiyyah binti Pg Dato Paduka Haji Othman, while the consolation prize winner was Junita binti Haji Mohiddin.
Maizatunnazirah binti Haji Md Daud emerged in first place in the Girl Guides category, while second and third places went to Siti Akmar Addurunnafis binti Awang Taib and Nur Syahira Chua binti Md Firdaus Chua respectively. The consolation prize went to Lina Nasytah binti Haji Abas.
As for the Brownies category, Dayang Salihah binti Haji Abang Aji came in first place, while Annurbazilah binti Haji Haslan and Dayang Rozaizah binti Haji Abd Rahman came second and third respectively. The consolation prize went to Nurhaziqah binti Haji Ismadi.
The competition was held in the Tutong District on May 12, 2006.
