Royal audience to foreign dignitaries

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on Saturday consented to receive 10 separate audiences from the guests of his 60th birthday celebrations.

Also present during the audiences were Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hjh Saleha and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri Azrinaz Mazhar binti Hakim Mazhar.

Princess Basma binti Talal of Jordan and her husband, His Royal Highness Al-Sayed Walid Ismail Al-Kurdi were the first to be received in audience followed by Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Taib bin Mahmud, who was accompanied by Datuk Amar Puan Sri Dr Hajjah Laila Taib, and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman, accompanied by Datin Hajjah Faridah Haji Tussin.

Their Majesties and Her Royal Highness also consented to receive in audience Indonesian Foreign Minister Dr Nur Hassan Wirajuda and Ibu Herawatie Hassan Wirajuda, followed by Commander of Indonesian Armed Forces Air Marshall Dato Paduka Seri Djoko Suyanto, who was accompanied by Datin Ratna Djoko Suyanto.

Their Majesties and Her Royal Highness then consented to receive in audience Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his wife as well as Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, accompanied by Datin Sri Rosnah binti Mansor, were also received in separate audiences.

Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen were also granted audiences by His Majesty. - Borneo Bulletin (17th July 2006)
