A visit to the sports institute in Doha is part of the itinerary of His Majesty’s state visit in Qatar. Aspire Academy of Sports is an elite sports educational institute for the development of young athletes. It was formed in September 2004, nearly the same age as the Sports School which was formed in Brunei Darussalam.
The academy is aimed at identifying promising young-athletes not only in Qatar but also from all the Gulf States and around the world in general. It provides hi-tech sport facilities, apart from offering a comprehensive intellectual education.
The sports academy provides renowned coaches and highly skilled work forces in their respected field from physical training to diet and fitness. Various programmes and discipline are being offered. Among them are physiology, physiotherapy, medical, nutrition, bio-mechanic and research. Currently, several sports have been identified including football, swimming, gymnastic and athletic.
His Majesty later toured the academy. Aspire Sports Academy has a campus building equipped with labs, playing field and the largest sports dome in the world, that will host the 2006 Asian Games.
The objective of the academy is more towards building and enhancing sports talents among its students towards achieving sports excellence. Apart from providing sport facilities, Aspire also offers scholarship to young athletes among the developing countries.
