His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam arrived early yesterday morning in Qatar for a two-day State visit.
According to a press release from the Prime Minister's Office, His Majesty was welcomed at the Doha International Airport by Ebrahim Ahmed Al Malki, Deputy Chief of Protocol, Emiri Diwan, State of Qatar.
Also present at the airport to greet His Majesty were Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Pehin Dato Lim Jock Seng, Permanent Secretary at the ministry, Pg Dato Paduka Hj Sallehuddin, and Charge d'Affairs at the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Doha, Awang Hj Ali Hassan.
His Majesty's first State visit to Qatar, began with a welcoming ceremony at the airport, where he received a guard of honour.
The highlight of his visit will be the four-eyes meeting between His Majesty the Sultan and His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar.
Also in the itinerary, His Majesty will visit the Ras Laffan Industrial City, centre for the production and supply of natural gas for Qatar and the Aspire Academy, centre for the development of young athletes into Olympic champions, followed by a presentation on the economy and development projects of Qatar.
His Majesty has visited Qatar twice. The last visit was in June 2005 to attend the 2nd South Summit of G77 & China. The State visit will enhance the warm and friendly relations between the two countries which established diplomatic relations on Oct 2, 1991.
