Their Majesties leave Thailand

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha left Bangkok yesterday afternoon.

Before departing the hotel where Their Majesties were residing, a doa selamat was read by the State Mufti, Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, RTB reported.

With Their Majesties were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Muta Wakkilah Hayatul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bulqiah and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bulqiah. Also in His Majesty's entourage was Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz.

Present at the terminal of the Thai Royal Air Force Base to bid farewell to Their Majesties was His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and Royal Consort Her Royal Highness Princess Srirasmi. Also present were Thailand's State representative, the Ambassador of Thailand to Brunei, and senior Thai military and government officials.

Their Majesties were in Thailand to attend the 60th anniversary celebration of Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej's accession to the throne.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej hosted a lavish banquet closing a five-day celebration of his 60th anniversary on the throne. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the second-longest reigning monarch after King Bhumibol, praised the Thai King for his "dignity, wisdom, courage", AP reported.

The Thai King spoke briefly, saying "this is the first time that heads of state and royal families from many countries gather together in the Kingdom of Thailand, which will significantly enhance our relationship, friendship and cooperation."

King Bhumibol, 78, hosted guests from royal houses of Europe, Africa, Middle East, South Pacific and Thailand's Asian neighbours for the celebration that started Friday. - Borneo Bulletin (15th June 2006)
