Two new Brunei envoys appointed

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday presented letters of appointment to two newly-appointed diplomats of Brunei to Bangladesh and Laos and received credentials from three newly-appointed envoys of friendly nations to Brunei. It took place at Istana Nurul Iman.

His Majesty presented letters of appointment to Dato Seri Laila Jasa Hj Abd Rahman bin Abd Hamid, High Commissioner of Brunei to the People's Republic of Bangladesh and Hj Sidek bin Ali, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei to People's Democractic Republic of Lao.

His Majesty later received credentials from Major General (rtd) Syed Haidar Jawed, High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan; Herijanto Soeprapto, Ambassador Extra-ordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia and Lauri Eero IImari Korpinen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland.

His Majesty later granted separate audiences to the new envoys.

Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, yesterday also granted audiences at the Balai Penghadapan, Bukit Kayangan, to the three newly-appointed foreign envoys.

They were Major Gen. (Rtd) Syed Haidar Jawed of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan; Herijanto Soeprapto of the Republic of Indonesia and Lauri Eero IImari Korpinen of Finland.

His Royal Highness welcomed the three new envoys and discussed bilateral matters.

Prior to the appointment, High Commissioner Syed Haidar Jawed served for 38 years in various command and staff appointments of Pakistan Armed Forces and retired as a Major General in the Army Supply Corps in Pakistan.

Ambassador Herijanto Soeprapto was the Director General of Asia-Pacific and African Affairs at the Department of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.

Lauri Eero Iimari Korpinen is currently Ambassador of Finland based in Kuala Lumpur. - Borneo Bulletin (15th Jan 2006)
