Exemplary festive stalls in Belait to be awarded

In an effort to maintain cleanliness during the upcoming celebrations of His Majesty's 60th birthday celebrations, the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board announced that prizes will be awarded to exemplary stalls in the district. Judging will be based on cleanliness, strategy and decorations.

This was stated during a Festive Stalls briefing by Board Secretary, Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board, Awang Sarih bin Tabong, who is also the chairman of festive stalls in Belait district this year. Stall operators were also told to operate their stalls only at designated areas and maintain cleanliness throughout the celebrations.

The briefing, held yesterday morning, was attended by officials from the Health Department, Fire & Rescue Department and Halal & Haram Unit Religious Department. The briefing aimed to provide operators with detailed information on maintaining cleanliness in terms of hygiene and food preparation, safety aspects and ensuring that served food was Halal.

Awg Sarih added that stall operators will be allowed to conduct renovations on their stalls to attract crowds this year, provided they do not interfere passers-by. The festive stalls this year will be held at Tudong Saji, Kuala Belait.

According to the Municipal Department, as in previous years, five sale categories will be provided, including 33 stalls for food and drinks, 56 stalls for vendors, 48 mobile stalls, nine stalls for live flowers and nine stalls for fresh fruits. - Borneo Bulletin (12th July 2006)
