Korban meat was simultaneously distributed to the poor in the districts throughout the country yesterday in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidil Adha.
In Brunei-Muara District, Penghulus and Ketua Kampong from 17 mukims were given the task of distributing the Korban meat from His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Royal Family.
The Korban meat was handed over to the village leaders at a ceremony held at the Dewan Muhibbah of the Brunei-Muara District Office. The 17 mukims are Sengkurong, Pengkalan Batu, Kota Batu, Lumapas, Sungai Kedayan, SABA, Tamoi, Burung Pingai Ayer, Peramu, Sungai Kebun, Gadong, Berakas 'A', Berakas 'B' Mentiri, Serasa, Kianggeh and Kilanas.
The ceremony started with the Takbir Raya led by the Brunei-Muara District Officer, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Md Yussop bin Bakar.
Awang Haji Jamain bin Momin, Brunei-Muara Assistant District Officer, who was chairman of the distribution ceremony, said "We are fortunate to have a wise and caring monarch as His Majesty performs Korban and distributes some of the Korban meat to the poor and needy in Brunei Darussalam".
He urged to the Penghulus and Ketua Kampong to present the Korban meat to the relevant people listed in their respective village.
Meanwhile, a similar handing over of Korban meat ceremony took place at the Seri Kenangan Hall of the Tutong's Community Hall Complex, yesterday afternoon.
The guest of honour who handed over the Korban meat was Awang Abd Mutalib Bin Hj Mohd Idris, Tutong District Officer. Also present were heads of villages in Tutong District.
More than 100 needy families from Mukim Telisai were on hand to receive the Korban meat during the ceremony.
In an interview, Hj Mohd Jun Bin Haji Mohd Tujin, Head of Kampong Telisai, conveyed his appreciation and gratitude to His Majesty and the Royal Family for their generosity in giving Korban meat to the needy people of the village.
This year, a total of 608 needy families in Tutong District are receiving Korban meat from His Majesty and the Royal Family.
Meanwhile, Korban meat from His Majesty and the Royal Family was also distributed to the less fortunate in Belait District yesterday.
In the distribution ceremony held at Belait District Office, Acting Belait District Officer Awang Haji Mohamad bin Haji Abdul Rahman, who was chief guest, presented the meat to Penghulus and Ketua Kampong who will distribute the meat to the less fortunate in their areas.
A total record of 831 less fortunate persons in Belait District are entitled to receive the Korban meat this year. A few of them also turned up to receive the distribution themselves.
Meanwhile, in a separate ceremony at the residences of Ketua Kampong, the Korban meat was distributed to the less fortunate in Kampong Mumong and Kampong Pandan.
