DBP contests winners during Majlis Ilmu receive prizes

The Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (Language and Literature Bureau - DBP) of Brunei recently held a prize presentation ceremony to winners of contests organised by the Bureau during the Majlis Ilmu (Knowledge Convention) at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, and held to mark His Majesty's 60th birthday celebration this year.

The contests were side events of the DBP at the Majlis Ilmu exposition. The Managing Director of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Dato Paduka Hj Ali Hashim bin Hj Daud, was on hand to present the prizes.

Hj Mohd Arripin HB Hidup won the essay writing contest in Category A, with Dyg Siti Hairani Hj Taha in second place, and Dyg Ana Suhana Hj Jabidi in third. Three contestants won consolation prizes.

There were no winners in Category B, where the three participants were adjudged to win consolation prizes only.

Hj Osman BPSKDSS Hj Mohd Tamin sang his way to the syair (traditional poetry) recital competition title, pushing Hj Sulaiman Hj Duraman into second place, and Mariqat Hj Abdullah into third. Five contestants won consolation prizes.

Meanwhile, in the photography contest, Abd Hafiz Abd Hamid was first, Pg Mohd Dahlan Pg Mohd Said finished second and Junaidi Hj Md Salleh came in third. Three others won consolation prizes.

Throughout the Majlis Ilmu, the DBP conducted plays, syair recital, poem reading and gulingtangan performances. - Borneo Bulletin (11th August 2006)
