His Majesty's grandchildren take part in choir finals

As part of the Ministry of Education's continuous effort in reminding children of the dangers of drug abuse, the anti-drug choir competition finals between primary schools was held yesterday at Dewan Raya, Radio Television Brunei in the capital.

The competition, entitled "Keluarga Penyayang Hidup Ruang", was organised by the Counselling and Career Guidance Section under the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education.

Also taking part in the competition were His Majesty's granddaughters, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Raheemah Sanaul Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Hariisah Widadul Bolkiah, representing Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah School.

The event began with a welcoming speech by Awg Ali Yusri bin Abd Ghafor, Deputy Chairman of the organising committee in his capacity as the Head of Drug Abuse Prevention Education Unit.

Also in attendance were Hj Mohd Yusof bin Hj Abd Rahman, Director of Radio Television Brunei, Hj Awg Bulat bin Badar, Head of Counselling and Career Guidance Section, Ministry of Education cum Chairman of the organising committee as well as teachers and participating students.

The main objective of the event was to instill the message of drug abuse as a harmful social activity to the students and the general public, as well as to remind students not to get involved in negative activities and the usage of drugs can lead to death.

Twenty-nine primary schools, public and private, participated in the competition. However, only ten made it to the finals which include St Georges' School, Pehin Dato Jamil Brunei Primary School, Kiarong Primary School, Sultan Hassan Bangar, Temburong Primary School, Orang Kaya Besar Imas Subok, Brunei Primary School, Tutong Kem Primary School, PDS International School, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah School, Amar Pahlawan Brunei Primary School and Rimba Primary School.

Five winners will be chosen and announced at a later date. - Borneo Bulletin (10th August 2006)
