His Majesty presents land titles to T.O.L. holders

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddien Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to present land titles under the land lot grant scheme for Temporary Occupation Licence (T.O.L.) holders in Brunei Muara district. The ceremony was held at the Kampung Junjungan Primary School Monday.

Upon arrival at the School, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was welcomed by His Majesty's Special Adviser at the Prime Minister's Office and the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Awang Haji Isa; the Minister of Development, Pehin Dato Doctor Awang Haji Ahmad; the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Awang Haji Adnan and the Brunei Muara District Officer, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Adnan bin Haji Hanafiah. The recitation of the Surah Al-Fatihah, led by Brunei Muara Distrcit Syar'iah subordinate court judge, Pengiran Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan marked the start of the ceremony.

The Brunei Muara District Officer, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Adnan in his welcoming address said that the grant of land lots under the Temporary Occupation License scheme reflects the concern of the government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in ensuring that all rakyat and residents are provided with adequate housing. His Majesty then consented to present land titles to forty-three recipients under the land lot grant scheme for Temporary Occupation Licence.

The scheme was introduced to ease the burden of the government in providing housing for rakyat and residents. Other such schemes include the Land Scheme for Landless Indigenous Citizens and the National Housing Development Scheme. Five recipients were from Mukim Berakas, four from Mukim Kilanas, four from Mukim Sengkurong, twenty recipients of Mukim Pengkalan Batu, one from Mukim Lumapas, five recipients from Mukim Mentiri, and four from Mukim Serasa.

The award of land lots, especially under the T-O-L scheme, requires the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. The regulations stipulate that land awarded under such a scheme must only be used for residential purpose. Any additional construction must first get the approval of relevant authorities.
