His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday visited the University of New South Wales in Sydney, RTB reported.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by the Vice-Chancellor and President of the university, Professor Mark Wainwright. Also present was the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Pehin Dato Hj Abdul Rahman.
At the Council Chamber, Professor Wainwright spoke of the achievement and developments of the university, which has a student population of about 40,000. The university has produced a number of Brunei graduates in various fields over the years.
University of New South Wales is one of the leading universities well known for new research and teaching development. It is also noted for its research on petroleum engineering. Fifteen young Bruneians are studying petroleum engineering at the university.
His Majesty toured various faculties of the university, where his first stop was the Graduation Hall. Since its inception in 1949, the university has produced some 140,000 graduates worldwide.
His Majesty spent more than an hour at the university. Brunei students and officials of the university told RTB that they would always cherish the occasion of meeting His Majesty.
