Crown Prince begins S'pore visit

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Pg Muda Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah had separate programmes on the first day of their 3-day official visit to Singapore yesterday, RTB reported.

His Royal Highness Prince General Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince began the day's itinerary by visiting Singapore's Ministry of Defence Headquarters. His Royal Highness was welcomed by Singapore Defence Minister, Rear Admiral Teo Chee Hean, on arrival.

The Crown Prince then consented to inspect a guard of honour mounted by 48 personnel from the Singapore Military Police. His Royal Highness also consented to sign the visitor's book.

The Crown Prince then consented to receive a call from Defence Minister, Rear Admiral Teo Chee Hean. Also present was Prince Abdul Qawi.

After the call, His Royal Highness attended a series of briefings presented by MINDEF senior officials including briefings on Singapore's defence policy, the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and its transformation and Singapore's anti-terrorism efforts.

In the afternoon, the Crown Prince visited the Changi Naval Base. His Royal Highness was welcomed by the Singapore Defence Minister, Rear Admiral Teo Chee Hean, Chief of Singapore Navy, Rear Admiral Ronnie Tay, Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant General Ng Yat Chung and Fleet Commander, Colonel Chew Men Leong.

The Crown Prince then consented to inspect a guard of honour mounted by 28 personnel from the Changi Defence Squadron.

Before touring the naval base, the Crown Prince consented to attend a working luncheon hosted by Defence Minister, Rear Admiral Teo Chee Hean at the Fleet Command Centre, Changi Naval Base.

After the luncheon, His Royal Highness was briefed on the history of the establishment of the Singapore Navy and Naval Base. His Royal Highness also consented to sign the visitor's book and receive a pasambah.

The Crown Prince continued the visit by touring the facilities and viewing the equipment at the Changi Naval Base. His Royal Highness also took a closer look at the submarine RSS Chieftain and the Landing Ship Tank RSS Persistence.

Meanwhile, Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah consented to tour Singapore. Her Royal Highness enjoyed a panoramic coach tour of the island. Accompanying Her Royal Highness was the wife of Brunei Darussalam's High Commissioner to Singapore, Datin Seri Wahyu Ningsih.

Her Royal Highness also graced a luncheon hosted by Mrs Teo Chee Hean, wife of Singapore's Defence Minister. Her Royal Highness also visited the Asian Civilisation Museum and the Southeast Asian Galleries. - Borneo Bulletin (10th Mar 2005)
